Travel Sketches

These sketches are from my travel journals that I have been working on for years. Most are done on-site and some are painted from memory. I like to keep the immediacy of plein-aire painting style, which is why I tend to use pen and watercolor instead of pencil, so I can't erase. 

The Things We Leave Behind

This series stemmed from my experience working with the elderly. I became fascinated by the memories and stories that people hold within objects, houses and things that we surround ourselves with. I used found collage elements in addition to a layered painting style that conveys convoluted memory and knowledge.
